My review
Environment
After I finished Battle Cruiser (Lost Colonies Trilogy Book 1) I found myself drawn into the story more, so I immediately started the second book! I immediately got in the mood. The environment was the same.. You could feel some time passed from the previous events, that there are some changes happened to the characters and the ship. The general atmosphere indicated some sort of trust issues between some characters… This led to a general feeling of mystery and distrust… You don’t know who is the bad guy from a bunch of suspicious people, and you keep going forward in the story to get to know the good guys from the bad guys.
Characters
The personality of the main character has evolved to show that he is now more confident and appears to be stronger. He is still having the sort of unstable relationship with his parents but things appear to be getting better…
Ship mechanics
Once more I enjoyed the realism added to ships, guns, travel speed, and capabilities… We don’t see super ships, or instant long distance travel… Trips took days and weeks, and this is a good fact about space travel.
Guns are realistic in performance… They need cool-down time, and are inaccurate at very long distances, they have an optimal range, and ineffective range. Ships suffer damage differently and you can feel the force of each shot or explosion through the words of the story!
Story line
The story goes fast and full of action… Long boring travel time are either skipped or covered with little details to keep the reader focused on the main course of action. Trough out the read, you start to question every character, and whether he/she is a good guy or a bad guy. You keep questioning until the very end of the story in this book… The fast paced story is really great in keeping all actions tied together and to keep the reader looking forward to move to the next book of the 3 stories!
The author also explains things that are already familiar and explained in the first book, this is great if the reader actually started with this book instead of going through book 1 then coming to this book… This gives the reader flexibility and also helps the reader to complete the book rather than forcing him to go look for book 1 then returning to this one!
My recommendation
This is a great continuation to the first story, if you loved the first book you will definitely love this one! There are a lot of surprises in this book, and a lot of action as well!
Note about the quality of the previous 2 reviews
This and the previous 2 reviews (Book review: The Martian, Book review: Battle Cruiser (Lost Colonies Trilogy Book 1)) are my very first public boo reviews, so I’m aware that they might not be exactly good or great… I’ll get better everyday as I find myself really enjoying reading these books and I’d love to share my experience with the world!
